Oil on canvas painting created in 1896 by artist B. Stürmer. Shows en trois quarts portrait of a girl. She is shown in a seated position with the head and her body pointing to the right from the viewer's point of view. She has bright curly hair that reach her shoulders, wearing a white linen dress that falls from her right shoulder.
This work is very painterly. Linearity is blurred. Brush strokes smoothly through each other. The image is created by chiaroscuro. Thanks to the light and shadow used, the image gained depth and three-dimensionality. The light comes from the left, illuminating the right side of the girl. The colouristic is very warm. Browns and beige are dominated. A strong color contrast is the dark background with the girl's bright dress.
The painting is signed lower right "B. Stürmer | 1896". Frame in a wooden, curved, gilded frame and decorated by acanthus leaves.
This painting was donated to FARA Richmond Bridge and will be auction at Hansons Auctioneers Country House Auction of Fine Art & Antiques on 6th/ 7th June 2019 https://hansonsauctioneers.co.uk/auctions/2019/06/fine-art/JUNE-2019-country-house-auction-of-antiques-fine-art
